Director, Environmental Health & Safety
As director of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) at Southern Research, Lance Sanders manages compliance and permitting requirements across all four divisions. He leads a team whose purview covers compliance with biological safety, standard operating procedures review, development and enforcement, proper storage, and waste disposal. Sanders is also radiation safety officer and Radiation Committee chairman, where his responsibilities include review of compliance with state and federal regulations.
Sanders has over 27 years in the EH&S profession, including the startup of facilities and the maintenance of established programs. Prior to Southern Research, he was EH&S manager at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute’s research facility in Orlando, Florida. He has held a number of safety and environment oversight roles at organizations such as Orange County Risk Management, Intercat-Savannah Inc., Intermarine USA, and EnClean.
Sanders earned a Master of Public Health in the safety management program at the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Tampa. He is a certified safety professional and a certified environmental, safety and health trainer from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Additionally, he is a certified hazardous materials manager from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management.
