Deimler obtained his doctorate in analytical chemistry from West Virginia University and his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Georgia College and State University. His graduate studies focused on the development of a new fragmentation technique for mass spectrometry, metastable atom-activated dissociation (MAD), a project which sought to investigate the viability of laser ablation electrospray ionization (LAESI) for forensic drug testing. While participating in these projects, Deimler developed an interest in repairing, improving, and utilizing analytical instruments. At Southern Research, his current expertise focuses on liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
