Kevin Burton, Ph.D.

Burton has an extensive background in pharmaceutical research and product development. After earning a doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Kentucky, he spent more than 25 years developing novel products in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. He built a career leading early discovery through late-phase clinical development, holding key leadership positions at Purdue Pharma, DURECT, Nektar Therapeutics, Brookwood Pharmaceuticals, SurModics and Evonik. At Southern Research, Burton oversees the Research Services division, which is tasked with preclinical development and clinical trial support. He attributes much of his career success over the past 20 years to Southern Research and believes in the critical role the organization plays in translating healthcare research into societal impact, jobs and regional opportunity.
