Kristen Bates

STEM Education Specialist

Kristen Bates is a dedicated science educator and STEM advocate with a proven track record of empowering students through innovative, inquiry-based learning. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a with a minor in STEM Education and a specialization in Chemical Education, as well as a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Development, both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2022, Kristen earned a STEM Education certification from the National Institute of STEM Education, further solidifying her expertise in creating engaging and student-centered learning environments. Kristen spent several years as a science teacher at P.D. Jackson Olin High School, where she taught Physical Science, General Chemistry, and AP Chemistry. She excelled in curriculum development, differentiated instruction, and integrating STEM project-based learning to meet the diverse needs of her students. In 2024, Kristen joined Southern Research as a STEM Education Specialist, where she continues her mission to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. Leveraging her classroom experience and instructional expertise, she now supports STEM education across Alabama, developing creative, hands-on programs that make science accessible, engaging, and impactful for all learners.
