Translational Research to Heal the World

In concert with state and national partners, our research goes beyond the search for cures to focus on solutions that prevent disease, improve quality of life and reduce health disparities across the United States.

Our team drives discoveries that reduce suffering and save lives. Over our 80-year history, our teams have worked every day to discover treatments and cures for diseases like cancer, Parkinson’s and COVID-19. Some recent accomplishments include:

  • Southern Research developed seven FDA-approved cancer-fighting drugs, and we currently have three new cancer drugs in development.
  • At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, our High Throughput Screening Center sifted through tens of thousands of drugs to identify potential treatments, and our scientists helped refine the first approved treatment for COVID-19.
  • As part of our ongoing collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, we have
eight new treatments in the pipeline for illnesses ranging from Alzheimer’s to diabetes.
